Beautifully expressed, Lee, as always. Shame on us as a people for refusing to rise above our desire for revenge. This is the second recent execution (or attempt) opposed by the victims' family members. It provides no benefit to the state. Why do we continue to allow it?

His generous spirit is a witness for us all. Add to that the forgiveness extended by the Epps family and we cannot be anything but ashamed of this backwater, brutal machinery called government.

Thank you, Lee, for your telling of this painful truth. May Jimi’s beautiful soul rest in everlasting peace. Something we are all denied as long as this continues.

Lee, I felt like I was there. Almost thirty years ago, a psychology professor told me what it was like to be a psychologist on death row. I remember being 19 and frustrated that she was quickly uprooting my belief in the necessity of the death penalty. But the seed was planted, and all these years later I’m of the belief that it should be each person’s Creator’s choice when they die.

Eye for an eye does, indeed, leave the whole world blind.

Thank you for writing. Kudos.
